Porsche in Ireland
Prices, VRT & What It Really Costs

Porsche is in a different league from the German mainstream premium brands in Ireland โ€” the gap between a 911 and a 5 Series is not just price but expectation. Porsche buyers are typically making an emotional choice that they've rationalised through residual values and long-term running costs. Both the rationalisation and the emotion tend to be warranted. This guide covers what Porsche ownership actually costs in Ireland, where VRT creates the greatest shock, and what the Irish market looks like.

Porsche's Irish Lineup โ€” Key Models

Porsche sells four main model families in Ireland: the 911 (sports car), the Cayenne (large SUV), the Macan (mid-size SUV), and the Panamera (executive saloon/Sport Turismo). The Taycan is Porsche's EV flagship. In Ireland, the Cayenne is the volume seller โ€” it combines Porsche driving dynamics with the practicality Irish buyers need. The 911 is the prestige and passion choice. The Macan EV (second generation, fully electric) launched in 2024 and has found a ready market among Irish buyers who want a smaller Porsche.

The Cayenne E-Hybrid VRT advantage

The Cayenne E-Hybrid is one of the more interesting VRT calculations in the Irish luxury market. With WLTP combined COโ‚‚ of around 70โ€“80 g/km (Band A2โ€“A3), it attracts VRT at 9โ€“9.75% on OMSP rather than the 25โ€“33% a comparable Cayenne 3.0T petrol would attract. The OMSP differential between the two is modest (PHEV premiums are real but not enormous), so the VRT saving can reach โ‚ฌ12,000โ€“โ‚ฌ18,000 relative to the petrol equivalent. This is not free money โ€” you're paying more list โ€” but the tax math is compelling for Irish buyers.

Porsche Centre Dublin โ€” Ireland's Only Official Dealer

Porsche Centre Dublin, operated by the Joe Duffy Group and located in Sandyford, Co. Dublin, is Ireland's sole authorised Porsche dealer. All new Porsche sales and official approved used stock goes through this single point. This has implications for buyers:

911 Ownership in Ireland โ€” The Real Picture

The 911 Carrera starts at circa โ‚ฌ135,000 in Ireland, with VRT (Band F at typical Carrera spec) adding around โ‚ฌ33,000โ€“โ‚ฌ38,000 to the OMSP. A reasonably specced Carrera S will exceed โ‚ฌ175,000 new. Insurance for a private buyer is โ‚ฌ2,000โ€“โ‚ฌ4,000 per year depending on profile. Annual servicing through Porsche Centre Dublin is โ‚ฌ800โ€“โ‚ฌ1,200 for routine maintenance. Tyres โ€” 245/35 and 295/35 โ€” run to โ‚ฌ1,500โ€“โ‚ฌ2,500 per set.

The offsetting factor is residual values. 911s are among the best-holding cars in the luxury market globally, and the Irish market reflects this. A three-year-old 911 Carrera in original Irish spec can realise 70โ€“78% of its original list price โ€” better than almost any direct competitor. This meaningfully reduces the "true cost of ownership" calculation relative to faster-depreciating alternatives.

The Macan EV โ€” Ireland's Sweet Spot

The second-generation Macan, now fully electric, is arguably the most compelling Porsche proposition for Irish buyers in 2026. At โ‚ฌ82,000 for the entry Macan Electric (long range), it attracts only 7% VRT (BEV rate), it has real-world range of 480โ€“520 km, and the driving dynamics are properly Porsche โ€” not the softened compromise some had feared. For a Dublin-based buyer with home charging, the Macan EV is a very strong case.

Buying a used Porsche in Ireland

Used 911s and Cayennes are available through Porsche Centre Dublin's approved used programme and through reputable independent dealers. For any used Porsche over 60,000 km, an independent pre-purchase inspection is essential โ€” Porsche maintenance costs are high when deferred, and some cars arriving from the UK have service histories that Irish buyers find difficult to verify. IMS bearing issues on early 996/997-generation 911s (pre-2009) are a known concern; later cars are unaffected.

Independent Verdict

Porsche is one of the few luxury car brands that genuinely delivers on both the emotional and rational dimensions of its proposition. The cars are exceptional, the residual values are strong, and the ownership experience through Porsche Centre Dublin โ€” while imperfect for buyers outside Dublin โ€” is generally professional. The weaknesses are the single-dealer model (limiting competition) and the complexity of the option pricing system, which can add โ‚ฌ20,000โ€“โ‚ฌ40,000 to a car if you're not careful. Build and price carefully on the Porsche configurator before visiting the showroom.
