The Range Rover P510e PHEV is one of the most impactful VRT stories in the Irish luxury market. A diesel Range Rover D350 (Band E–F) attracts VRT of roughly 25–33% on OMSP. The equivalent P510e PHEV, with WLTP CO₂ of circa 18–22 g/km, attracts only 7% (Band A1 BEV rate — some configurations) or 9% (Band A2). The VRT saving on a €180,000 OMSP Range Rover can exceed €40,000 compared to the diesel equivalent. This is why PHEV Range Rovers have become disproportionately popular with Irish buyers.

The Defender — Revisited
The new Defender has divided opinion in Ireland. The original Defender was a working vehicle — farmers, mountain rescue teams, and anyone who needed genuine off-road capability in daily use relied on it. The new Defender 110 starts at €80,000 and tops out at over €130,000 for the V8 variant. It retains genuine off-road capability (air suspension, terrain response, wading depth), but its buyers are overwhelmingly urban professionals who want the aesthetic rather than the utility.
In Ireland, this matters because the Defender's positioning as a fashionable SUV has driven strong demand and, consequently, strong residual values — even at prices that seem objectively high. A well-specced Defender 110 is holding 65–72% of list at three years old, comparable to the Range Rover Sport. Whether that justifies the new price is a values question as much as a financial one.
Reliability — The Honest Irish Picture
Land Rover reliability has been a persistent issue that the brand has worked hard to improve. The current (L460) Range Rover has had a better start than the notoriously unreliable L405 generation that preceded it, but early buyers of complex new models from any British manufacturer warrant some caution. The diesel D350 engine (supplied by BMW Group) has proven more reliable than the older Jaguar Land Rover diesel units. The PHEV systems have shown mixed reliability in early ownership reports internationally.

Budget for the possibility of an extended warranty — Land Rover's own Approved Used programme includes warranty coverage that is genuinely valuable given the brand's historical reliability profile.
Second-hand Range Rovers are among the most searched luxury cars in Ireland. Supply is thin relative to demand — the Irish market isn't large enough to generate the volume of used stock that the UK market does, and importing from the UK involves post-Brexit checks. The weaknesses are reliability (improving but not resolved), the relatively thin dealer network outside Dublin, and the servicing costs, which are among the highest of any luxury brand in Ireland.
