Mercedes-Benz in Ireland
Prices, VRT, AMG & Dealers
Mercedes-Benz occupies a distinct position in the Irish luxury market β it carries more weight as a prestige statement than Audi, and positions itself more clearly as a comfort brand than BMW's sportier DNA. The three-pointed star is deeply embedded in Irish corporate culture: the E-Class and S-Class remain the default executive car choices for senior management in many Irish companies. The AMG sub-brand, meanwhile, offers performance to match and exceed BMW's M cars. Here's what the Irish picture looks like.
Mercedes-Benz's Irish Lineup β Key Models
The E-Class and C-Class dominate Mercedes volume sales in Ireland. Above them, the GLE and GLS SUVs are strong performers, and the S-Class remains the prestige flagship. For performance, AMG's C 63, E 63, and GT models compete with BMW's M range and Audi's RS line. The EQS and EQE represent Mercedes' EV push, though take-up in Ireland has been slower than EV sceptics might expect given the brand's customer profile.
| Model | Category | Irish Price (new) | Typical COβ Band | VRT Rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| C 220d AMG Line | Compact executive | β¬52,000ββ¬68,000 | B2βC (111β130 g/km) | 13.75β16% |
| E 220d 4MATIC | Executive saloon | β¬67,000ββ¬85,000 | CβD (121β140 g/km) | 16β20% |

| AMG GLE 63 S | Performance SUV | β¬165,000ββ¬185,000 | H (191+ g/km) | 41% |

| EQS 450+ | Electric flagship | β¬140,000ββ¬165,000 | 0 g/km (EV) | 7% (BEV rate) |
* AMG C 63 S E Performance uses a PHEV powertrain β COβ figure depends on test cycle; typical WLTP combined around 120β140 g/km, which places it in a more favourable band than its 500hp+ output might suggest.
The AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ (outgoing model: 4.0 V8, ~190 g/km) sits right at the Band G/H boundary β VRT is typically in the 37.5β41% range on OMSP. Revenue sets OMSP for the E 63 S at circa β¬140,000+, meaning VRT can add β¬52,000ββ¬57,000. New, this car was β¬210,000+ all-in. Two-year-old examples are now appearing at β¬140,000ββ¬160,000 β still expensive, but the depreciation curve has done a lot of the work.
Mercedes-Benz Dealer Network in Ireland
MSL Motor Group is the dominant Mercedes-Benz dealer in Ireland. Operating from its flagship location in DΓΊn Laoghaire (Co. Dublin), MSL also has premises in Sandyford and manages new and approved used stock across its network. MSL's service department is regarded as one of the more thorough in the premium segment, with AMG-trained technicians available for the high-performance models.
Outside Dublin, Mercedes is represented by GVM Group in Galway and Limerick, and Kearys Motor Group in Cork. The used car operations at MSL and Kearys tend to have the best stock of approved used Mercedes in their respective markets.
Mercedes vs BMW vs Audi β The Irish Hierarchy
In the Irish corporate and professional market, Mercedes sits at the top of the German three. The E-Class is the default "senior executive" car at Irish firms to a degree that the A6 and 5 Series don't quite match. The S-Class carries more inherent prestige per euro than any comparable German car. This matters if resale value and perceived status are considerations β a year-old S-Class is easier to place as a prestige purchase than a year-old 7 Series or A8.
For driving pleasure, BMW's M cars still edge AMG's larger-engined models β though AMG's smaller 4-cylinder and PHEV offerings have closed the gap significantly. Mercedes' MBUX infotainment is one of the best in the business and genuinely intuitive compared to the first generation iDrive or MMI systems. Comfort at motorway speeds in an E-Class or S-Class is difficult to beat.
Buying Used Mercedes in Ireland
Mercedes holds value strongly at the top of the range (S-Class, AMG models) but the C-Class and E-Class mid-range depreciates faster than buyers expect β particularly the pre-facelift models of each generation. A three-year-old C-Class typically sits at 45β55% of list, which is softer than equivalent BMW or Audi alternatives. This creates a buying opportunity for those who want the badge at a lower price.
Mercedes electrical systems are complex. Pre-purchase inspection of any used Mercedes over 60,000 km is essential β air suspension faults, StarDiag-readable fault codes, and service indicator resets are all things that specialist inspection can identify before you buy. Budget-priced Mercedes from smaller dealers warrant extra scrutiny.
Mercedes' PHEV lineup (C 300e, E 300e, GLE 350e) qualifies for SEAI VRT relief in Ireland and lower Benefit-in-Kind rates for company car users. The GLE 350e in particular positions well β the PHEV version attracts meaningfully lower VRT than the diesel GLE, and the BIK rate for qualifying PHEV models is substantially lower for employees where the company is providing the car.
Independent Verdict
Mercedes-Benz in Ireland is a strong choice for buyers who prioritise comfort, prestige, and long-distance motorway performance. The S-Class is genuinely one of the world's great cars. The E-Class is excellent value as a two-year-old approved used purchase, when the sharpest depreciation has already occurred. The AMG models are fast and dramatic but expensive to run β expect tyre bills that rival the fuel costs on the lower-output models.
The dealer experience through MSL is generally better than average for Ireland's market, where luxury car servicing quality can vary significantly. If you're outside Dublin, verify which local dealer has AMG-trained staff before committing to a high-spec model.
